Introduction to Flight & Master Modes
Alpha 4.5 introduces the Master Modes framework, which categorizes ship operation into two distinct states: SCM and NAV. These modes determine the ship's speed, defensive capabilities, and available equipment. Pilots must switch between these modes based on situational requirements such as combat or long-distance travel.
Space Combat Maneuvering (SCM)
• Purpose: Designed for combat, docking, and precision flight. • Speed: Velocity is capped (typically 200–300 m/s). • Systems: Full access to weapons, shields, and countermeasures. • Energy: Shields regenerate at maximum efficiency. • Interaction: Use Middle Mouse Button to cycle Operator Modes (GUNS, MISL).
Navigation Mode (NAV)
• Purpose: Long-range travel and high-speed transit. • Speed: Access to the ship's maximum engine velocity (~1,000 m/s+). • Limitations: Weapons, shields, and countermeasures are disabled. Shields will not regenerate. • Activation: Press and hold 'B' to toggle. Note the spool-up delay during the transition.
Quanntum Drives
Not all quantum drives are built the same: • Military: Highest survivability and spool speed; built to stay functional under damage and stress. • Stealth: Quietest signature profile; minimizes detection during spooling and in-transit quantum emissions. • Civilian: Balanced range and fuel efficiency; widest availability and lowest maintenance requirements.
Quantum Travel Procedure
1. Set Route: Use mobiGlas (F2) to select a destination. 2. Engage NAV: Press 'B' and ensure the HUD displays NAV - QTM. 3. Calibrate: Point the ship at the destination marker for automatic calibration. 4. Initiate: Once calibrated and spooled, long-press Left Mouse Button.
Warp Tunnel Stability
During a warp tunnel jump, pilots must manually stabilize the ship. Keep the ship’s nose centered within the 'warp tunnel'. Failure to maintain stability will result in an emergency drop-out into deep space, potentially damaging components.
Power Distribution (Capacitors)
Manage power using the Power Triangle (F5, F6, F7): • Weapon (F5): Increases energy weapon fire rate and reload speed. • Shield (F6): Increases shield regeneration (SCM mode only). • Thruster (F7): Increases Boost (Afterburner) capacity and recovery speed. • Reset (F8): Balances power equally.
Component Maintenance & Repairs
• Physical Access: Size 1 and 2 components are accessible via interior ship bays. • Field Repairs: Use a Multi-Tool with a RMC Attachment to fix hull breaches or component damage. • Fuses: Power is distributed via physical relay boxes. Blown fuses must be manually replaced to restore system power.
Heat and Fire Safety
• Overheating: Prolonged NAV mode usage or excessive boosting generates heat. Cooler failure leads to system shutdowns. • Fire Suppression: Use handheld extinguishers to put out fires. • Atmospheric Venting: In specific ships, engineers can vent oxygen from rooms to the vacuum of space to extinguish fires.
Atmospheric Flight & VTOL
• Aerodynamics: Density affects speed and handling. Ships with wings perform better in thick atmospheres. • VTOL (Vertical Take-Off and Landing): Press Alt + K to toggle dedicated VTOL engines. This provides essential lift in heavy atmospheres and during landing maneuvers.
Landing Procedures
1. Request Clearance: Use Comms MFD or Left Alt + N within 5km of a port. 2. Landing Gear: Press 'N' to deploy. This activates Precision Mode (capped at 30 m/s). 3. Descent: Use Right-Ctrl to descend vertically. 4. Auto-Land: Within the landing zone, hold 'N' to finalize the touchdown.
Docking and Alignment
